Drug Abuse: drugs and intelligence
|
|
One of the 1960's "beat" poets,
recently spoke of the role of drugs among that ultra-modern group of word
artists. He said that he made a point of using every one of the many
available mind-altering drugs at least once during each year. It
was a way to keep his mind creative, he said.
He explained that those drugs were put here on earth to foster the evolutionary advance of human intelligence. |
A geneticist, on hearing the poet's opinions, commented that the observation on evolution was certainly correct. "Dangerous drugs do advance evolution," he said. "But I think that poet," he continued, "has a few things backwards about how the mechanism works." "I'm glad that poet survived though," he said with a wink. "I kind of like his poetry." ![]() |
