In
1961, a group of thirteen UCHCers toured the Southwest Deserts. Owl
Canyon (near Barstow) first. Then an overnight hike through the Narrows
of Zion. Then, the canyons of the Escalante River. Next, Goblin
Valley. And then, deep into the back country of Arches National Monument
(now National Park). Finally a climb of Uncompahgre Peak, one of
Colorado's "fourteens."
Here Mel Bernstein is in
front of the group touring Devil's Garden, in Arches National Mon. (Pk.).
