Wishbone
Canyon
mile 72, left bank
This side canyon wishes to
join the Colorado River here. But it hasn't made it. The occasional
flash flood carries water and rock toward where we are standing, carving
toward the Colorado trying to form a hanging canyon and waterfall.
Another hundred feet, and the new hanging canyon will exist. . . perhaps
in a thousand years or so. Now, it veers off to our left, swings
around in a two mile wishbone shaped path, and enters the Colorado upstream,
near a large gravel basin.
Wishbone Canyon would likely
be a National Park were it anywhere else. Here, it isn't even run-of-the-mill
Glen Canyon spectacular.
From the nearby slickrock between Wishbone
Canyon and the Colorado we can look to the right and see across and down
the Colorado. . . |
