Upper Glen Canyon


An enchanting land of rock buttes and sandy shores.  And glens: idyllic, green patches in the desert.   Shorelines of tamarisk, red bud, and willow.  Shallow, large, rock caves, often spring-fed, green with cottonwood and colorful monkey flower, maidenhair fern, sedges and rushes.  And poison ivy.  You see life everywhere.  The glens of Glen.

Navigate Glen Canyon


When the law had heard our story, they all took off their six shooters, laid them in their holsters in piles on the seats of their pickup trucks, and we all took off in all directions to continue the search for the missing.  I went with the seventy year-old Escalante police chief, desparately trying to keep up with him as he roamed rapidly over the steep slickrock above Cathedral in the Desert and the headwaters of Clear Creek.  He had been a rancher wrangling cattle in this area all his life.
