Necanicum and Neawanna River Systems

The Neawanna watershed system, including the
Stanley Lake/Mill Creek drainage and the Neacoxie,
is a small coastal system by most standards.  Although
small, the Neawanna system's greatest value is that
it still retains most of the critical elements, large
expanse of fresh and salt marshes, riparian forest,
limited non-point source polution, and surviving
  Coho Salmon runs.

Watersheds, with the estuary elements relatively intact,
are becoming rare on the Oregon Coast.  The Neawanna
represents one of only a handful that have the potential
for a planned stewardship program that does not
demands an extensive restoration effort.  This system
has the capacity to provide public access for natural
history experiences and planned education programs.
