Erect shrub up to 4m tall with sparse, weak thorns. 
Leaves alternate and deciduous in leaflets of 
three.  The back leaflets are usually two lobed and
form a butterfly shape when taken together.

Flowers are pink to reddish purple up to 4cm
across, 2 to 4 to a branch.  Fruit is orange to red
in color and tart.

Found in moist to wet sites, often forming dense 
thickets.
