Hospital ICU/CCU Remodel
Salem
Hospital’s ICU/CCU was a complete remodel and retrofit of
10,000 square feet of interior space, creating 10 new Intensive
Care patient rooms and revamping the Surgery Admitting area. Two
of the surgery remodels were unique in that one was designated
for emergency airborne precautions and the other was the only
eye surgery facility in the region. Due to the hospital staff
being “packed” into this area, we remodeled the space
in four phases so that old spaces to be remodeled could be vacated
and newly remodeled space could be occupied as the project progressed.
It
was critical to keep surrounding functions operational as we worked
on creating the new patient rooms. We achieved this with temporary
partitions and posting signage indicating walking paths. It was
also critical that provisions were made for dust control and debris
removal. Plastic curtains with zip lock doors were placed around
the demolition areas. A Hepa vac filter system was used to remove
dust and send it down a dedicated duct to the exterior of the
building. Larger debris was removed via a covered cart that was
wiped down before entering public spaces.
LCG Pence Construction, LLC installed a variety of hospital materials and equipment
including everything from Sharps containers to Picker x-ray viewers.
Specific to this project, each ICU room had a Hill-Rom head wall
unit, lavatory unit, and nurse call system. With each headwall
unit containing medical gas, monitor, and electrical connections,
considerable care was taken to coordinate the installation of
these systems into the restricted space of the patient room.
