America
The single-story American Honda facility, consists of a 168,000
sf parts warehouse, an 18,000 sf office and a 25,000 sf training
center.
The
American Honda project posed several unique challenges. First,
the Owners were strongly committed to constructing an
environmentally conscious building achieving a Gold certification
through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating
system. Flyash was used in the concrete to help achieve this
goal.
Second,
due to American Honda’s automated conveyor system,
extremely high standards were needed in the warehouse flooring.
The flooring had flatness/levelness requirements of 50/35. Typical
flatness/levelness standards are 35/30. LCG Pence Construction, LLC exceeded
American Honda’s requirements by achieving factors of 60/54.
Additionally, the owner specified a crack closure that would
disallow any crack that exceeded the width of a credit card.
LCG Pence Construction, LLC was proud to give American Honda a floor that met
this specification.
Finally, with construction beginning in November of 2000, the
concrete pour and tilt panel erection occurred during adverse
weather conditions. Typical winter weather at the mouth of the
Gorge consists of 35 to 40 mph winds coupled with near freezing
temperatures. Pouring high quality concrete and erecting tilt
panels is particularly challenging in these conditions.
