About Vancouver USA |
About Vancouver, USAA great place to live, work, and play!Vancouver, the fourth largest city in Washington, is located in the southwest corner of the state just north of the beautiful Columbia River and 10 miles north of Portland, Oregon. Originally established as Fort Vancouver, it is the oldest continuous settlement in the region. It is the hub of Clark County, the fastest growing county in Washington state. As the area has grown, so has the economic base. Now, small and large high tech, biomedical, and manufacturing companies are here. With a high education level, and no state income tax, the areas employers are able to attract the best and brightest. Vancouver offers the best of a small city with all the advantages of a major
metropolitan area just minutes away. Vancouver has a fine school system which
enjoys strong support from the community. Unlike Seattle (which is just
180 miles to the north) housing here is quite affordable without the crime, high
taxes, or traffic.
Vancouver, Washington has a rich history. The famous Lewis and Clark trail runs along the Columbia River and the Fort Vancouver National Historic site offers an interactive living history program exposing visitors to life in what was the major center of the Hudson's Bay Company fur trade in the 1800s.

Although the northwest is often thought of as rainy, our average annual rainfall is less than New York City. The climate is temperate with summer highs usually in the 70-80s and winter lows rarely much below freezing. We occasionally get a snow day or two in the city proper, but with the Cascade Mountains to our east, we have several world class ski resorts within an hour's drive which offer some of the nations finest runs from November through May. The rest of the year, Vancouver offers the best in outdoor recreation: fishing, camping, boating, wind surfing, and hiking. The gorgeous Pacific Ocean is just 60 miles to the west and offers great weekend getaways.
Clark County's Amphitheatre draws some of the most well-known country, rock, and jazz groups from around the nation for its summer season. And for those who enjoy more indoor activities, Portland offers all the cultural activities, both secular and religious, that one could imagine including fine dining, upscale shopping, professional sports, classical symphony orchestras, touring Broadway shows, opera, ballet, and numerous small theater productions. WSU Vancouver Vancouver is the home of the newest Washington State University campus, a four-year undergraduate institution which is growing rapidly. In addition, we are proud of our community college (Clark College) which, among other things, has a very strong nursing program. We have two nationally renowned medical centers and a major medical school close by in Portland.
