A Cat's Intelligence

Date: Fri, 27 Nov 1998 21:42:08 EST Subject: FEL-L: Cat Intelligence

In regards to intelligence: I don't even have to think about that one, with my leopard, Majik his intelligence is what allows me to do all the things I do with him, if it weren't for that I wouldn't have the relationship I do. He just is able to pick up on things SO quick!! I'm not sure if that kind of intelligence is specific to leopards? jim

Jim, how old is your leopard? It's the one thing I've been afraid to have because of some really awful stories. Of course, there are awful stories about all cats (and a thousand great stories about them all) and bad stories are sometimes the fault of the owner, but the leopard seems to be the worst at having sudden unexpected violent reactions....or maybe I've been prejudiced about some things that happened to friends of mine. What do you think?

Majik is almost 3 years old, and I too heard the horror stories about leopards, but I think its because they are so intelligent that some people have problems with them. My rule of thumb is never hit!!! I use a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar to discourage biting, with a firm "no bite," and now all I have to do is say "no bite"

I've never tried to train Majik, just teach certain positive behaviors so I can always interact with him, and that's my only goal. And considering I still sleep with him, and that's a time I'm most helpless, if he ever wanted to hurt me he could have done it 1000 times over.I will try to attach a picture if possible, look forward to hearing from you.
