Recently
I came across a couple of photos of my beloved house I lived at in south Omaha,
Nebraska in the early 1970s. These were taken in 1973, and that's me out front!
The house might not impress you that much...but it's pretty old, maybe dating
back to 1900 or so? My relatives had owned it, as well as the two next to it,
for years before we got it. I had so much fun there and was devastated when
we had to move. |

...And
here it is, 31 years later: 2004! I went back for a visit and took a picture
in front of the old place with my son Dorian. Sigh. What did they do to it?
Why did they cover up all the brick? Why is there an "inner city Los Angeles"
type fence in the front yard? You can never really go home again... |

New
update! In an old family album I came across this photo from 1928, which
I'm 95% sure is the same house. The one you see to the right was my great-grandparents
house, and the one to the left was their daughter's (my great-aunt)'s house,
which we eventually got in 1971. It looks soooo different because my mom said
a lot of additions had been made. And almost every old house in south Omaha
covered their porches at some point. I have no idea who the man out front is.
I think some guy on my grandpa's bowling team. |
