If you love Victorian houses, you're going to love my website! I've spent the past 20 years photographing houses any time I come across ones I like, and have quite a collection now. I thought, well, perhaps it would be fun to share them via a website! Many of my houses are in San Francisco, where I lived for a few years. This city really has the most amazing collection of them! There are also quite a few in Astoria, Oregon, where I live now. As well as others from my travels around the country. I've arranged the houses by style. Many I'm unsure of how to classify, and although I have read descriptions of the various different styles of houses during the Victorian period (1830s - early 1900s), many seem to combine elements from two or more styles. Feel free to use my messageboard to start up a debate if you think I've mis-classified a house! There are other styles, but they are rare on the west coast and in states I've travelled to, including the Greek Revival, Gothic Revivial and Romanesque styles. The Greek Revival, popular from the 1820s through 1860s, doesn't really strike me as that interesting, so I've never hunted them out. But a nice example of one can be found at the Banning House. Gothic Revival houses were built from the 1830s through 1860s and have a cute, storybook cottage look to them. Here are the pages for you to browse through. Hope you enjoy them! Just click on the tiny houses to see the full pictures. If you have any comments, questions, corrections, clarifications; if you own one of the houses and would like to give us some more info about it; or you just want to say hi, please post to our messageboard! |
