Current Volunteer Opportunities

ACTIVITY AIDE Volunteers assist with or run recreational activities for our residents including programs and activities in music, bingo, flower arranging, exercise, games, trivia, discussion groups, arts & crafts or entertainment.  To view this month’s Activity Calendar click ( here ). Volunteers are needed weekdays, evenings and weekends.

CCHD Auxillary - Besides being FUN, joining our auxiliary is a great way to make new friends while supporting a worthy cause.  Since 1990 the Auxiliary has worked to support a wide range of activities for our residents, such as providing our residents with sight seeing bus trips around the community, bingo prizes, trips to the beauty / barber shop, birthday and seasonal holiday parties, arts & craft supplies, as well as entertainment.  The Auxiliary also spends time visiting with our residents; sometimes just to lend their ear to the collection of life stories so many of our residents enjoy telling.  The Auxiliary meets once per month – the fourth Tuesday of the month – September through June.  Membership is open to anyone interested in advancing the mission of CCCHD.

CLATSOP CARE FRESH AIR CLUB Help us give our residents a breath of fresh air!  We are looking for a few good men and women to accompany our residents on a stroll into and around town.  By walking our residents down the hill, volunteers provide them with a break from their daily surroundings, allowing them the opportunity to window shop or enjoy the sites and smells of the Columbia River.  This is the ideal activity for volunteer groups or clubs who are looking for a monthly community service project.  Trips occur on a monthly basis.  Please note: accompanying residents up and the down the hill from the Care Center requires some physical strength.  Trip times vary according to volunteer schedules.

COMPASSIONATE COMPANIONS Put your compassion into action by providing a calming and comforting presence to residents in time of crisis or transition.  This could include residents in the terminal process, residents newly diagnosed with catastrophic or terminal illness, new admissions or residents with unresolved issues of pain or anxiety.  Your presence as a trained volunteer can provide comfort and solace.  Training will be provided.  Volunteers work on an on-call basis.

FRIENDLY VISITOR

Help Clatsop Care Center provide that extra special TLC by becoming a friend to an elderly resident.  Visiting, chatting, playing games, reading, writing letters, taking walks, or other one-on-one activities can significantly enrich the lives of our residents.  Volunteers are needed weekdays, evenings or weekends.

HAPPY HOUR HOST / HOSTESSHelp us keep our residents’ spirits high!  Join us in serving up smiles for this spirited social hour every Friday afternoon from 4-5PM.  Volunteers must be over 21 years of age.

MEAL HOST / HOSTESS – Meet and greet residents as they arrive for their daily meals.  The host or hostess will assist residents to the dining area, serve beverages, get refills, and provide company during mealtimes.  Volunteers are needed during the following meals:  Breakfast 7:00-9:00AM; Lunch 12:00-1:00PM; and Dinner 5:15-6:15PM.

MUNCHIES & A MOVIE Just like “dinner & a movie” volunteers play a movie while cooking up scrumptious treats to serve to the residents.  This event takes place every Tuesday evening at 6:30PM.  The menu and movie have already been picked out - all you need to do is pop in the DVD and lend your culinary skills to prepare and cook the evening’s goodies.

OFFICE HELP Lend a hand in reducing the administrative workload.  Volunteers provide office assistance with filing, answering phones, copying and other office tasks.  Volunteers are needed weekdays, Monday – Friday.

PET PALS Animals can be a great source of comfort and affection for our residents.  Volunteers assist residents in caring for facility pets, including cleaning and feeding of animals, or by bringing in their own pet for a friendly visit.  A variety of pets are welcome although we ask volunteers to phone in ahead of time for approval.  All visiting pets must first comply with our Pet Policy.

SOOTHING SOUNDS Use your musical talent to bring healing and comfort.  Play music, sing a lullaby, or hum a hymn to create a peaceful and calming environment for residents, families and staff.  Times vary according to volunteer’s schedule.

SPECIAL EVENTS Come celebrate with us!  We are always looking for an excuse to party!  We have programs and parties here for every major (and many minor) holiday.  We also have special occasion celebrations and activities, holiday decorating, birthday parties, BBQs and picnics where volunteers play an important role in assisting staff and accompanying residents.  See the attached Activity Calendar for a list of this month’s events and celebrations.

SPIRITUAL SERVICES Bring joy and companionship to residents by attending weekly religious services.  Volunteers are needed to accompany residents to service and other faith-sharing activities on Sunday at 2:00PM and Tuesdays 10:50AM and 2:00PM.

VISIBLE LIVES STORYBOARD PROJECT We’re making a better effort to get to know our residents by creating resident Storyboards.  Volunteers will work with residents and their families to create a collection of pictures and stories that summarize the extraordinary lives our residents have lived.  Knowing the many experiences, and challenges, that have shaped their lives can help us better meet our role as caregivers.  This is a volunteer-driven project with a flexible timeline.
