Our building was built in 1926 and originally was Columbia Hospital. When the new hospital was constructed in 1976, this building became vacant. A group of concerned citizens soon organized a committee to investigate the possibility of maintaining a nursing home in the old hospital building. They were particularly interested in providing skilled care, which at the time was not available in this area. After a number of public meetings, the citizens of Clatsop County voted on and approved the sale of General Obligation Bonds to purchase and remodel the building.

Clatsop Care and Rehabilitation admitted its first resident October 11, 1979. The Care Center enjoys a well-deserved reputation for providing outstanding service, made possible from the beginning to this day, by the voters of the Health District.
