Kam and his human "Bob Graham"

CANINE CARRIAGES

"We're Pulling For You"

Meet Kam: A German Shepherd with a lot of pull in the canine world. Often you can find Kam and his human, Bob Graham, at the park enjoying a gorgeous day. They both enjoy it a little differently than most, however. Kam is actually exercising his way to a healthier, happier life.

When asked if he wants to go cart at the park, Kam gets very excited and all but pulls you out the door in his eagerness. At the park, he happily sits while two quick snaps attach him to the cart. He's off and trotting with a simple, comfortable harness and a lightweight carriage behind him. Little does he know that carting helps his hip dysplasia and that the muscle he is developing keeps him active and strong.

Hip dysplasia is a malformation of the hip socket. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the affected joint is beneficial in maintaining joint integrity. Kam's veterinarian is very pleased with what he sees happening, since he knows how Kam was several months ago. Dr Barry Powell of Southgate Animal Clinic in Portland Oregon knows of Kam's recovery and history; from an animal in constant pain and limited physical mobility to a vibrantly active dog totally free of pain due to exercise and to the diet his human has developed for him.

The cart is an excellent aerobic conditioning tool for working breeds. It's manufactured of carbon steel, which provides great strength while remaining truly lightweight. The sturdy frame is coated with a baked-on epoxy finish that "Canine Carriages" has found to be the toughest and most durable available. Each cart is equipped with a quality brake system that can assist both rider and dog in various terrain situations. A heavyduty cordura fabric keeps arms and legs away from spokes and protects the rider from road debris and standing water. Each cart comes equipped with a zippered cargo bag and sturdy wood floor. The folding seat adds to the rider's comfort.

Three years of development have been invested to ensure that the carriage is ergonomically correct and is perfectly balanced so that it does not put any weight on the dog's shoulders. Because of the cart's unique design and engineering, the dog is pulling mere ounces on level ground.

This year, we have accomplished several goals. These are improvements that continue to make our carriages the best built and most versatile in the industry.

·  We continue to use our rigid one piece frame, which has been altered to improve handling, performance and safety.

·  Our new movable seat maintains balance with people weighing from 50 to 250 pounds.

·  We have dropped our brake pedal bar, allowing for more comfortable "finesse" braking.

·  Our new double dog shaft incorporates the same "floating shaft" principle as our single dog system.

·  We can provide a "breakdown" model (The Trans Sport Model) to allow persons to transport our carriage in a car trunk or those with limited storage space. Breakdown and assembly takes less than three minutes, with no tools.

·  Our new carriage has cleaner lines and features several structural improvements and component upgrades.

·  We are in the process of completing our "cab enclosure kit", allowing persons to drive during inclement weather in relative comfort.

All of this is accomplished in a package weighing less than sixty pounds.
