The Business Guide to Sustainability, by Darcy Hitchcock and Marsha Willard, is intended to do for all organizations what LEED has done for the green building movement: make it easy for people in organizations to make progress on sustanability. It translates the abstract notion of sustainability into language and actions that make sense to a lay audience. It's structured the way organizations are structured, making it easy to assign responsibility. It includes chapters for major sectors (services, government and manufacturing) and also chapters by organizational function (senior management, human resources, facilities, finance, marketing, etc.). Each chapter explains what you need to understand about sustainability, provides tools relevant to that particular sector or function, and ends with a self-assessment developed in conjunction with the International Sustainable Development Foundation and the Zero Waste Alliance.

The Dragonfly's Question (Discussion course)

Right now, most people think action requires sacrifice. The Dragonfly’s Question is a novella that reveals the sacrifices our current lifestyles are imposing and uncovers a path to a more satisfying, sustainable life. Compelling sustainability concepts (e.g., climate change, green chemistry, renewable energy, and clean-tech) are embedded in a story of reconciliation between Tess, a sustainability consultant in Portland, Oregon, and her father, a workaholic investment advisor from the east coast. This book will be of interest to the general public as well as professionals in government and business as we all try to envision a compelling, sustainable future vision. The book includes a complete discussion guide to run an 8-week discussion course at work or in your neighborhood. Order one copy per person in your group.

The Trust Imperative: Performance Improvement Through Productive Relationships

New Book Shows Organizations How to Improve Performance by Developing Trust

November, 2001 - ASQ Quality Press announces a new book The Trust Imperative: Performance Improvement Through Productive Relationships, by Steven Hacker and Marsha Willard.Today's businesses environment is highly demanding and increasingly competitive, requiring organizations to be flexible, responsive, and continually innovative. In order for this to happen, there must be a high degree of trust throughout the organization. Leaders need to trust that their workers will carry out their directives, and employees need a high level of trust in the vision and direction that leaders create for the organization. Without this trust an organization will struggle to reach its goals and attain the success desired. This is the focus of The Trust Imperative: Performance Improvement Through Productive Relationships, by Steven Hacker and Marsha Willard, which explains how to develop trust throughout an organization, while improving performance and increasing productivity. Many organizations have major problems as they try to gain the trust of their own personnel, as well as the trust of their customers and suppliers. In many cases, an organization's attempts to gain trust lack credibility and create more problems than they solve. The Trust Imperative helps break through these obstacles, by offering a straightforward method for assessing trust across an organization. The book offers simple conceptual models, assessments, and trust tools which will help individuals diagnose, measure, and improve the level of trust within the organization. The authors then provide succinct tips and techniques to support the continuous development of trust within any organization. The book also includes actual assessment forms and trust building tools and activities are included.168 pages, hardcover, published by ASQ Quality Press, 600 North Plankinton Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53201.
