My son took the call from Council and woke me from deep slumber. My posting had finally come through. I would be going offworld. I was called to the Red Planet.
I scurried through the corridors, gathering essential supplies. Their years are longer than our spinning orb's, and conditions harsher. There would be danger, and privation almost unbearable, but I welcomed hardship as a necessary test of my commitment.
I was going to the Red Planet, planet of blood and strife, war-torn, the only place in the Galaxy in which such ancient ways yet prevailed. I was going to Earth.
