Lady Godiva

Alan P. Scott - Fictions - 100-word stories

no place like home

In a somber forest clearing, Lady Godiva dismounts. She picks a tall fungus, wrinkled and brown. She holds it between her skyclad breasts and chants to the north, west, south, east... then returns.

Back in the center of town, Lady Godiva hoists a boy and girl from the crowd into her place. Their ages together equal hers alone. She gives the proud steed's rump a slap. The villagers follow the horse and children away, leaving her free.

Eventually, the men break the padlock anyway. They haul her naked and dusty from the shed. She closes her eyes against the sunlight.
