Blue LEDs recently developed in Japan open the way for large, flat-panel video displays. Fullerenes (buckeyballs), spherical and tubular structures of pure carbon, offer new methods of drug delivery as well as other, unforeseen applications. Synthetic proteins can convert potential energy from many forms, including heat differentials, pH, pressure and salinity, into electricity, motion, and other more useful forms, efficiently and on large or small scales.
Examination of so-called 'junk' genes indicates that their distribution is not random, but rather is of the same order of complexity as a natural language.
No plans for translation have been announced.
