HATE LETTERS TO THE KOOKS MUSEUM

Despite our undisputed charm and popularity, we here at the Kooks Museum are occasionally subject to the complaints of disgruntled visitors. Though we thoughtlessly threw out the first ones, we have now begun to save these missives because of their lasting value as educational tools. If you study these messages, I think you might notice some patterns. It seems that some visitors are unable to distinguish between looking at something and advocating it. Others are unable to process information when it's in the form of satire or irony. And then there are the evangelical Christians.

Subject: REPENT

I wandered aimlessly through the vain coridoors of your museum, wondering what sad, empty soul had arranged such a monument to madness.

Could there indeed be a real face behind this illusion, this flagrant freakshow, who had devoted so much time and energy to nothing at all? I mused... As your "Museum" is only virtual, and you are in fact not a curator of anything, I suspect you are but a figment of your own imagination. The photo of yourself looks contrived afterall, and your ire is certainly not original in any sense of the word. You could be anyone's imaginary spokesperson. Pick your cause...eco-feminism, insect rights, wiccan-homosexual-vegans, whatever. But, perhaps you are legit. (Do you even HAVE a cause?) What if this colossal waste of time does really exist? If so, I thought, perhaps you will wake up one morning and find yourself an exhibit in your own museum...the "Kook of kooks", on display for all of God's redeemed creatures to gawk at, "wagging their heads" for all eternity. Nope, nothing funny about that, Donna. Outer Darkeness is the final frontier and eternal destination for all the world's crackpots. A crackpot is defined as any soul who rejects his (or her) Creator. You rage in your cynicism and mock God's Wisdom and Love. By your own admission, you "hate" God's people, hence you hate God. You are the kook, see? You are the one destined for kookery. I'd be more than willing to give you the Gospel, but I'm sure you know it all too well. I shan't "cast my pearls before the swine."

But I hope you'll reconsider. Read about the One who died for you in the book of John, or prepare for your Judgement. It won't be witty, it won't be sexy, and it won't be ironic. In eternity, there will be no underground beatnik intellectual dive cafe's hashing phony, ambiguous "word art" for you to lounge in and laugh it up with your cheap wine coolers and funky sexually-vague groupies. Your Judge will be Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, whose Love you rejected for a cheap laugh. You can be sure you WILL cough up a FULL account of your life. And all of creation will hear every dirty little thought you ever had and will see every filthy little deed you ever did or had done upon you. Think about what you are doing. Perform the only one selfish act you probably have never done. Think about your soul for once in your life.

Subject: Morons?

Donna,

With reference to your 1995 essay on Moronic Ritual Abuse, I haven't spent enough time on your site to determine which side of that issue you are mocking.... the victims of ritual abuse? or the people who perpetrate it?

If it's the former, you don't know jack-squat about which you speak. If it's the latter, it is in fairly poor taste (is that the point?) and shows little respect for the people who've suffered. I'm all for using humor as a coping mechanism... but sometimes it doesn't work, like here. Wanna believe it or not, this stuff's real.

Why do you give platform to hate groups ? I wonder if you have actually visited the sites you advertise/promote. And if you have, do you think about the damage you have spread. The first admenment is a wonderful thing and everybody has a right to speak. But that doesn't mean you should broadcast and thereby amplify hate. Unless you support hate. Do you ? I await your response.

Hate may or may not spread like a virus (research crowd psyc. and peer pressure if you wish) and you may be correct in your assumption that the reasons for hate are complex. But that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that you are advertising hate groups. The links that you provide have membership applications. It is true that these sites can be visited in other ways, but why do you make it easier ? I have been to many museums that depict Nazis, KKK, Black Panthers, etc. and I have not once found membership applications in any of them. If any of these groups had a pledge drive would you still continue to help them with more free advertising? You can not stand behind the veneer of your research in an attempt to justify your spreading of hate. In your own eyes you may have washed your hands of complicity but not in the eyes of those of us who live in the real world where you gather your "specimens".

You still fail to address the issue. YOU provide access to groups who hate. We are not talking about intelligent people who know the differance between right and wrong or, as you say, exhibits and advertisments. We are talking about violent people who will hunt you down and beat your head in with a bat because you look different, talk differant, or act different. You must be very young to be so naieve. The only other excuse is that (and you have yet to deny it) you are in support of the groups you advertise.

Subject: William Cooper

Dear Donna,

That was a very interesting review of William Cooper. It is very easy to label someone a kook. By doing so you are attempting to control information. I am very ignorant of this subject and have only just read Mr. Cooper's book. What is the purpose of the Trilateral Commission? Are there any intelligent people who are not extremely rich on that Commission? Power breeds power. Money is power. Money creates information. Do intelligent people automatically get rich? Are rich people automatically intelligent?

Instead of addressing the important issues Mr. Cooper brought up, you labelled him a kook. By doing so, you are telling people that everything he talks about is false. That is a form of brainwashing, believe it or not.

Through ignorance or deliberation, you are working at closing the door on Mr. Cooper's claims rather than pushing people to investigate further. You have no right to call Mr. Cooper a kook. Let the TRUTH do that, if that is what the TRUTH will do.

Labelling is easy. Truth finding is about the hardest damn thing a person can do in this world. Don't stall the process.
